Simon –
After several months of research and analysis paralysis I had chosen to go for the Ceado E37S grinder, which was one of the very early considerations on my list. It is a spectacular grinder and it has far surpassed anything I could imagine. Unfortunately, I cannot compare this flat burr grinder to anything else, as I have only ever used conical burr grinders. But you really can taste the difference from a conical, and the difference is very big. I underestimated the importance of a good grinder, and I implore you to not do the same! The overall noise of the grinder is very quiet and actually quite pleasant, for me I can dose 18.0g almost every time I run it (the odd variance of nothing more than 0.2g) which runs in 4.6 seconds (obviously depends on the roast so this does vary if you change beans, from as little as 4 seconds to a maximum of 4.9 seconds) I had many grinders on the short list, which also included single dosers. But in reality, how likely I would be to personally have time to single dose etc was a little slim – not to mention, they’re never in stock and have lead-times of half a year! So the final two I had lined up, was the Eureka 75 and this. I went for this in the end, mostly due to the lower retention compared to the 75, but the look and the sound also played a part. After listening to the two, I found this one to be a bit more pleasant and looks-wise it does fit in more with my overall set up. I usually prefer tactile buttons but I think the Eureka just had too many, this has 3 touch buttons that are simple to use. It’s been about 4 months since delivery and I will always recommend this, I love it and my guests love it (my wife is reluctant to admit that she also loves it, but I know she does). It’s a great way to start my mornings and even adds some excitement if I have a long day ahead. It took just over a week to receive as it ships from Italy but keep in mind, thanks to the jolly Brexiteers, you will now have to pay an extra ~£200 on import taxes. Cafe Italia have been brilliant throughout, I had a little problem with the unit that was very quickly resolved free of charge! 5/5!
